Mupirocin is one of the major antibiotic components produced by Pseudomonas fluorescens. Both Mupirocin free acid and calcium salt are used as active pharmaceutical ingredient and listed in USP, EP, JP.

Physico-Chemical Properties:

Mupirocin: white or off white powder, mp 76-78 DC, [a]D20 -19.3 (c = 1 in methanol), UV max (ethanol) at 222 nm (e 14500). Soluble in methanol, ethanol, acetone, ethyl acetate, chloroform, diethyl ether; slightly soluble in water.

Mupirocin Calcium: white or off white powder. Nearly insoluble in methanol, ethanol; slightly soluble in water.
